I see it now.
Lying on a pile of embers and ashes.
Now a burnt black piece of wood crap,
it can barely be compared
to the flaunted piece of treasure it used to be.

Its edges were plucked from its body,
flung to the sides
when it made its thunderous fall to the ground.
Its body,
once emblazoned with the freshest of greens,
now smoked to the core.

~

There is no return from here.

~

Perhaps there was a time
when this fate could have been evaded.
But the players slumped, ill,
unable to alter the course
upon which the dice had been thrown.
